What's the difference from HackerRank or Codility?
Those platforms test algorithms and code memorization — skills becoming less relevant as AI rises. HireTheDev simulates real work: the candidate gets a brief, uses whatever tools they want, and delivers a project. You measure delivery capability, not rote knowledge.
Can candidates use AI tools?
Yes! Candidates are explicitly told they can use any tools, including AI assistants. The assessment is designed to evaluate critical thinking and code review skills, which AI cannot fully replicate.
How does automated scoring work?
After a candidate submits their review, AI evaluates their response against the known bugs in the code. It scores accuracy (did they find the bugs?), quality (how well did they explain and suggest fixes?), and speed.
What programming languages are supported?
Currently supported: PHP, JavaScript, Python, Java, C#, Go, Ruby, and TypeScript. More languages can be added easily.
How long does an assessment take?
Assessments are configurable from 15 to 180 minutes. Most assessments with 3-5 challenges take about 45-60 minutes.
Do I need to know how to code to use the platform?
